Review - Terry Dubrow’s ‘The Acne Cure’
One of the book’s that has received glowing reviews and high sales is Dr Terry Dubrow’s ‘The Acne Cure’.
The book, co-written by Brenda Adderly, is a comprehensive and fast system for eliminating acne, the curse of so many millions of lives, and has been used by many thousands of readers.
Essentially the center piece of the book’s system is a stepped program designed to eliminate acne fast. Don’t they all, you may say.
And indeed you need to take some of the claims with books like this with a grain of salt as there is no absolutely proven cure for acne, but Dubrow’s book carries ideas that do have merit and can work for many people.
‘The Acne Cure’ considers specialized treatment for maintaining healthy skin after the acne has gone and deals with the difficulties faced by those who are pregnant, stressed, or traveling as well as dispensing advice on those with different skin types.
Certainly the different issues faced by those who are Caucasian, Asian or Black will affect the sort of acne treatment they should undertake and that is an area that has sometimes been overlooked in the acne remedy world.
Dr Dubrow’s book actually looks at a six week treatment that it believes can eliminate acne in 95 per cent of all cases, but with results within 24 hours.
One thing I measure acne-cure books by is the safety of the methods used and whether the anti-acne treatment is natural or relies upon prescription or over-the-counter remedies.
In the case of “The Acne Cure”, there are no prescription drugs and it provides a focus upon vitamins and antioxidants that help the skin. It also looks at how to eliminate razor bumps and deals with the tough acne issues that many face, including acne scarring.
The book outlines a three-step program involving: (1) the use of a cleaner where the active ingredient is Salicyclic acid, which you leave on the skin for about 30 seconds before washing off; (2) the use of Glycolic acid, which you leave on for about 3 – 5 minutes and (3) the longer step of applying Benzac AC to dry up the acne.

Many claim that salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide can irritate the skin or can lead to over-dryness of the skin and indeed this can occur if it’s used incorrectly or on the ‘wrong’ skin. Over-zealous application of some of these products can lead to major problems.
There is something of an art to using these in combination and they can be harsh on the skin, which is something about which you need to always take care. Probably (and usually) the best thing with these ‘cures’ is to moderate and alter them to suit yourself.
The key thing about these programs and ‘cures’ is that you need to have the flexibility to ensure that they are suited to yourself and to your skin. You must monitor the use of acids and other applications to ensure they’re not damaging the skin in your quest to cure your acne.
